Total – Abu Dhabi Festival Visual Art Award

The 2015 Total-Abu Dhabi Festival Visual Arts Award offers a prize of 10,000AED for an Emirati emerging artist or undergraduate student who demonstrates outstanding creativity in an original artwork inspired by the Abu Dhabi Festival 2015 exhibition, ‘View From Inside Contemporary Arab Photography, Video & Mixed Media Art’.

On Tuesday 24th November 2015,  Shamsa Al Dhaheri from New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD), the winner for 2015 was awarded by H.H Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak , Mrs. Hoda Kanoo and Mr. Hatem Nuseibeh for her outstanding visual art work.

Ms Shamsa, a student of New York University Abu Dhabi, was presented with the award for a photographic series that carries the theme of female empowerment within the context of the veil.

Runners up included Ayesha Al Mheiri from Zayed University for her sculpture Inside the Lace Tissue Box, and Shamma Al Bastaki from NYUAD for her painting, A Poet Who Writes With a Knife.

The ceremony was held during the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF)’s annual Young Media Leaders graduation, which recognises the achievements of talented young Emirati students who have completed ADMAF’s year-long programme of media training.

Hosted by the Patron of ADMAF, His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Culture, Youth & Community Development, the 9th annual ceremony saw a total 18 Emirati students graduate, all of whom hope to become the media leaders of tomorrow.
